When will I get the dividends declared by a company

I would like to know about dividend payout of companies i.e., quarterly, half yearly or yearly for direct equity holder. if I invest in such company today and if company declared dividend in the next week then will I be eligible to get dividend amount?

Companies do not declare dividends as frequently as quarterly or half – yearly barring special circumstances and the dividend distribution policy of the respective companies. The dividend of a company is given to their share holders whose name appear in the books on the ‘record date’. Therefore, to be eligible to get the dividends declared by a company you should have the shares delivered in your demat account on or before the ‘record date’ announced by the company.
